Today nursing has become a highly respected and skilled profession. Demanding specialized technical knowledge of highest order and dexterity on the part of the practitioner. Alertness of action, ability to meet complicated situations calmly and confidently and the power to grasp the rapid advances that are taking place in the profession are other attributes of the nurse. The modern nurse is well informed, about the sophisticated equipment used in diagnosis and therapy, latest surgical procedures, intensive care of the severely ill, besides Haemodialysis, organ transplant and a host of other complicated and difficult tasks which she may be handling in her daily routine.
Nursing is a science and an art. It is in fact a vocation, which harmoniously combines the two aspects. The work of a nurse is no longer confined to her bedside duties in the hospital ward. Her role in community health, child welfare and family Planning is assuming greater importance day by day. Nursing is no longer the handmaid of the medical science. It is complementary to and co-extensive with medicine & surgery.

PURPOSE
The purpose of general nursing training is to prepare the general nurse who will function as member of health team with beginning competencies for first level position booty in hospital and community.

Objectives
After completion of the Nursing Program, the students will be able to:
- Access health status and identify nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for individuals, families and communities.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the scientific principles underlying the techniques and methods used in nursing for providing holistic nursing care to the sick in the hospital and in the community.
- Develop the student's sensitivity and skill in human relationships and communication in daily work.
- Demonstrate leadership and administrative skills in working with the health care team, community and others in the provision of health care.
- Develop teaching and management skills.
- Recognize the need for continued learning for personal and professional development
- Practice ethical values in personal and professional life.
The School of Nursing provides Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery Three and Half years (3 ½) Course
